Travelling to Kingfisher Bay Resort is an adventure!
GIC attendees will need to travel to Hervey Bay, by plane, car, bus or train. From there, they must check in at the Kingfisher Bay Resort’s mainland reception to begin the incredible journey from the mainland to the island by ferry.

Travel to Hervey Bay – Domestic
PLANE
There are daily domestic flights from most capital city airports to Hervey Bay airport. Australia’s discount airline, Jetstar, departs from Sydney and Melbourne daily to Hervey Bay. If travelling internationally, we recommend arriving in Australia from Sydney or Brisbane. Airport transfers from Hervey Bay Airport to Kingfisher Bay Resort are available to attendees of the conference. Further information about Jetstar’s domestic flights to Hervey Bay is available here. CAR
Brisbane, the closest capital city to K’Gari, is a 3-hour and 45-minute drive from Hervey Bay. Sydney is a 14-hour drive. If driving, you can leave your car at the Kingfisher Bay Resort’s carpark on the mainland. Should you have a four-wheel drive car, then you are permitted to ferry your car to K’Gari
TRAIN
From Brisbane, take the Tilt Train for a comfortable four-hour journey to Maryborough West Station. Enjoy panoramic views of the passing countryside, as well as onboard entertainment and a range of meal and snack options. A pre-booked transfer can be arranged with Kingfisher Bay Resort, to the Kingfisher Bay Mainland Reception, to coincide with your arrival at Maryborough West Train Station. BUS
Greyhound Australia offers daily buses from Brisbane to Hervey Bay. Trips range from 5-hours to 7-hours, with an early bird rate of $88 return. Further information about Greyhouse Australia’s bus service is available here.
Travel to K’Gari from Hervey Bay
Kingfisher Bay Resort offers a shuttle service from Hervey Bay Airport and Maryborough West Train Station to its mainland reception. From there, guests are transported to the ferry for the 50-minute journey to Kingfisher Bay Resort on K’Gari. Upon arrival to the island, guests are welcomed by the friendly resort staff and transported to the resort’s reception.
The Kingfisher Bay Ferry has four services to the resort each day from River Heads and return. This ferry has two decks with a fully licensed bar and snack food available.

Guests are advised to arrive at the mainland reception 40 minutes before ferry departure for check-in. A courtesy shuttle from the Mainland Reception to the ferry will leave 10 minutes before ferry departure time. If your ferry is departing before 8:30am, please continue straight down River Heads Road, for check-in at The Ticket Hut.

International guests and visa information
For international guests, we recommend flying to either Sydney or Brisbane. From Brisbane, travel to Hervey Bay via bus, train or flying is recommended. From Sydney, we recommend flying with Australia’s budget airline, Jetstar, to Hervey Bay.
All guests to Australia are required to get a visa before entry. For some countries, you are eligible for a three-month Electronic Travel Authority (information here). The transaction fee is AUD$20. For extended stays in Australia, or you not eligible for the Electronic Travel Authority, then you may have to apply for the Visitor Visa (Tourist Stream) (information here).
