Profile

Lisa McNett believes the best gift we can give to ourselves and each other is our presence, and that we become more present and available through healing our individual and collective trauma. Lisa has always been curious, and has spent her life exploring herself and understanding human behavior. She has traveled extensively, living all over the US during her former career in hospitality management - having managed in various settings from nightclubs to a five-star resort. After some years, she was feeling “burnt out” from her accumulated life experiences and began listening to her inner voice; she left the hospitality industry in 2007 and traveled to India in search of personal healing and transformation. In India, Lisa became certified as a 300-hour yoga instructor and as an Ayurvedic therapist. She also experienced a profound spiritual awakening in a mountain cave, where Sri Ramana Maharshi had lived and taught. His teaching on the self-inquiry of “Who am I” has become the foundation of her work both personally and professionally. Her time in India was the beginning of her quest for self-healing and learning how to be of service in the world. Her path led her to study: massage and hydrotherapy and the Florida School of Massage; Reiki, Shamanic Practices and Ministerial studies with the Sacred Earth Center; receive a 500-hour yoga certification through Yoga Works; Transformative Communication & Self Empowerment through various seminars, Advanced Personal Transformation, and Life Coach training with Satvatove Institute; craniosacral therapy with Upledger Institute; breathwork with Alchemy of Breath (being the first student to formally complete their Breathwork Practitioner Program); and collective trauma with Thomas Hübl. In addition to her professional training, over the years she became involved in different spiritual practices to better understand them and their underlying teachings. Through her exploration with the Kuan Um School of Zen she met KC Walpole, who became one of her greatest mentors. Lisa began working closely with KC, who is certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and assisted Jon Kabat-Zinn in prison research, inspiring him to dedicate his life to prison work. Lisa assisted in teaching modified MBSR and meditation programs within a maximum security women's prison alongside KC for approximately 2 years. Later, Lisa shifted from prison work to working with Veterans within the Honor Center of Gainesville, FL--a facility that provides residence and support programs to Veterans who are homeless. Professionally, Lisa built and sustained a private healing practice and also participated in various projects over the years. This included spending a year as faculty at the Florida School of Massage as their continuing education manager; teaching weekly yoga classes as well as physical & subtle anatomy, ayurveda, and more for a 200-hour yoga teacher training at a studio in Gainesville, FL for 12 years. Lisa has held hundreds of self-healing workshops in Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, communication skills, breathwork, and healing retreats. On another note, Lisa is an avid runner and is a two time finisher of the Chicago marathon. Lisa has also served as a mentor and teacher for two international breathwork schools before founding her own school, One Breath Institute, which offers personal healing programs and professional breathwork trainings. With the creation of One Breath Institute, Lisa brings forth her vision for how we can heal through introspective practices, guided by the breath. Breath has been at the foundation of her personal and professional work from the beginning; once she discovered conscious connected breathwork, she discovered how all-encompassing the breath is. It is the piece that brings the entire puzzle together - and as we return to wholeness many other practices support our healing journey. Lisa is grateful to be joined by co-founder Debbie Schirmann who brings another level of depth and support to our programs. Together we are One Breath. Lisa is a registered breathwork practitioner with the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA).
